International Relations Program

The International Relations discipline is a scientific orientation aiming at analyzing and interpreting the relationship among the various actors that form the world system and the basic dynamics inherent to their individual and common orders. To this end, the analysis of national and international systemic realities and the interactions between these main structural levels, as well as the relations among all the international actors are regarded as the fundamental analytical grounds.

The International Relations Department also pays a special attention to the functional divisions in the world order; and to this end, political, economic, financial, cultural and psychological as well as security domains taken into consideration as the main attributes of the "whole" namely the global order. Only with analytical purposes, these functional areas are studied within their particular reality domain; yet, our purpose is always towards seeing and understanding these areas in a common framework, in their totality. To this end area studies -with a particular emphasis on the European sector-are carefully designed along with the studies on the global order and its related issues

Coinciding with these perspectives, building a sound basis for a theoretical knowledge is determined as a departure point. It is such a theoretical capability that enables us to deal with the respective issues of foreign policy and diplomacy, dispute management and conflict resolution, political economy and international strategic management as well as with the global socio/political transformation along with the concept and process of the global threats. In our Department, a special consideration is placed on the theory and process of "strategy" as a particular field of study in itself.

The graduate candidates acquire a formation in order to be recruited as diplomatic officers or start a career in multinational companies, in the media, in the European Commission etc, as well as in the various private companies. Besides that, they may provide themselves with the chance of establishing an academic career in universities, research centers and in similar institutions.
