A graduate of Robert College, Istanbul, Turan Tiryakioğlu received his M.B.A. degree from Memphis State University, USA in 1974. Settling in Toronto Canada, he started his career in financial research and actuarial analysis at IAC Limited, the largest finance company in Canada at the time. While promoted to Manager of Research and Statistics, he also joined the Project team that converted IAC to Continental Bank of Canada (which is still active as the Hong Kong Bank of Canada).
Joining the Canadian Bankers Association (CBA) as a policy advisor and functioning as the general secretary of various committees at CBA, he played a major role in the Revision of the Bank Act of Canada. He received full commercial banking training at the Toronto Dominion Bank. After serving at each of the branch banking functions, he managed branches and was promoted to manage the commercial credit function in western Toronto.
He continued his career as a manager and consultant for the Deposit Insurance Corporation of the Ontario Government. There, he turned seven financial institutions from major losses into profitability by acting as the chief decision maker, the job assigned to the corporation’s consultants. Carrying his consultancy skills in finance and management to Ernst & Whinney (currently KPMG) International Chartered Accountancy and Management Consultancy firm, he took the position of Director in charge of Consultancy Services to the finance sector.
Before returning to Turkey, he was Assistant General Manager at Secul Savings, a local bank in Toronto. He joined İmar Bankası in 1987 and proceeded as General Manager 1988. He became a member of the founding management of Netbank and helped establish a new commercial bank as a Vice President. At Netbank, he also directed the establishment of the Corporate Finance Services.
After contributing to the conversion of the bank into Marmara Bank as a Board Member and Senior Vice President, he left to establish Euro Factoring, a full service factoring company, in partnership with French investors. As the General Manager, he guided Euro Factoring into becoming the fourth largest factoring company in Turkey. He later left to establish his own firm, active in the provision of Corporate Finance and Management Consultancy Services since 1995, working on over 30 projects in many sectors like information technology, financial services, retail and logistics, agriculture and food, industry and trade. Since 2003, he has been teaching graduate and undergraduate management courses at Isik University like management consulting and business strategies and policies.
